Tourism on the Edge is always on the lookout for hidden travel gems and places of profound beauty. But we also cherish memorable experiences on the road, which makes us fans of “slow travel”.

Today’s post goes out to those discovering the USA; to those who like to stop and admire colorful fields and farmlands, talk to local people and find out stories. We would like to address the travelers who, from time to time, answer the bohemian calling of taking the train.

GoTicket is an online platform that allows you to search train and bus routes in the U.S. If you are just deciding on a trip, this website may ease the planning process.

How does it work? You can begin by typing in your place of departure and destination. A new window will pop-up with a map and train connections between the two cities. Choose a date and select from the available rides.

In our case, we searched for trains from San Diego to Los Angeles. The search results delivered a time schedule with available routes, and time duration for each option. By clicking a special tab (View), you can also see the company that operates that route.

The downside is that the platform does not allow for booking online. In other words, after you get a list of the available train or bus rides, you will have to go further and make a reservation on the website of the company offering the transportation service (but you will know exactly what trip to book, which is okay).

All in all, we find the website to a be a good starting point when planning a train or bus ride in the U.S. It is good when you just want to grab a pen and a pencil and draft what could turn up to be a memorable journey.
