Cuyahoga Valley National Park3

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is situated between Akron and Cleveland in Northeast Ohio, and it is the only national park in Ohio. With a total surface of 130 km2, it preserves and reclaims all the areas along the Cuyahoga River, with its beautiful rural landscape that includes colorful forests, waterfalls, rolling hills, caves and steep narrow ravines. From its deciduous mixed-mesophytic forests to wetland habitats, from currently cultivated agricultural lands to older field habitats in various stages of succession, Cuyahoga Valley is a perfect environment for plants and animals to flourish.

Things to do

Visitors have a lot of opportunities to have fun, to explore or to enjoy the temporary escape from the urban madness. The Towpath Trail provides 32 km across the park (follows a former stretch of the 495 km long Ohio and Erie Canal) which can be explored by hiking and bicycling, being connected to the most important attractions. The river could become an excellent place for fishing, canoeing and kayaking, birdwatching or taking pictures. Along the park there are a few preserved and restored sustainable farms, with pastoral or rural living that provide other ways to enjoy this trip, including horse rides or picnics. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad organizes railroad tours through the park for unconventional sightseeing.
