The gorgeous village of Naoussa Paros in Greece is ten kilometers east from Parikia, towards the northern side of the island of Paros. It is categorized under the “prettiest villages” in the Cyclades and, regardless of the expansion of tourism, this exquisite village has preserved its realism, spirit and magnetism. Enhanced by whitewashed small houses, chapels and churches, bounded by labyrinth-like fine and stone-tiled streets, Naoussa is a traveler’s and a photographer’s dream.

Naoussa Paros

This picturesque village is constructed amphitheatrically around a small yet beautiful port where small, colorful fishing boats known as “caiques” moor and where the remains of the Venetian castle is still visible, creating a breathtaking experience. Ouzeries (where you can eat appetizers called “mezedes” and drink “ouzo”) and little taverns embark the port by creating a traditional and friendly atmosphere. Naoussa didn’t completely lose its traditional feel, like some other Greek Islands. This is because many Athenians spend their holidays here, replicating the genuine atmosphere back home. Otherwise, the village would have probably been completely swallowed up by the commercialism of worldwide tourists.

Several archaeological monuments and sites are found in the areas surrounding the village of Naoussa Paros and are filled with tourists all year long.  While traveling to Naoussa, you shouldn’t miss out on  “Kimissis tis Theotokou” Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, which is the uppermost point of the village and the Saint Nicholas Church, known as “the Church of Agios Nikolaos”, which houses the Byzantine Museum with valuable icons of the 13th century.

Other places to visit include the Agios Ioannis resort, Monastiri guesthouse, Agioi Anargyroi – the holy mercenaries and Kolymbithres Beach. All these locations can be reached via kayaks, asphalted roads or via charming footpaths. The nightlife in Naoussa is often resembled to the one in Mykonos. We stumbled across and an interesting interview on the subject on Greek Travel, if you are interested in finding out more.
