Hut Tug on ThamesPeculiar enough to be memorable, a canal ride in The Netherlands inside an improvised bathtub is our idea of an unconventional traveling experience. The Hot Tug is the entertaining innovation of Supergoed’s designer Frank de Bruijn, who currently works on a barge in the port of Rotterdam. Simple, yet ingenious, the wood-fired hot tub allows travelers to soak in a warm bath with a glass of champagne, while witnessing idyllic landscapes : “It’s much more than a boat, it’s a vessel with different options. When the tug is filled, there is only a narrow rim between you and the water, making you feel at one with your surroundings”, Frank de Bruijn explained.

The system is appointed with a stainless steel wood stove meant to heat the water inside. This is what heats the 2000 liters of water in the HotTug to a pleasant 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees F.) in a few hours.

The Hot Tug can be experienced in Rotterdam and in the northwestern town of IJlst (Friesland province), but also in various locations outside The Netherlands such as Copenhagen or the small town of Egham, England (as a side note, do you remember our post on London’s Hot Tub Cinema concept? ). Booking a tub-boat in Rotterdam will cost you € 139 per two hours for two persons and € 259 for a group of eight (crazy friends).
