Said to be the result of a massive volcanic eruption, Giant’s Causeway is a place of scenic views and impressive basalt columns in Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) away from Bushmills town. When you travel here, be aware of the strong waves, as they might get you soaked without any previous warning.

Giant’s Causeway features around 40 000 basalt columns which makes this place a great attraction for travelers and a rampart in front of the fury of the Atlantic ocean. Getting there is possible by bus from Belfast (just look after the signs with “Giant’s Causeway Coastal Route”), Portrush and Coleraine.

According to a popular local myth, Fionn mac Cumhaill, a giant Irish hero, built this “path” to cross the sea towards Scotland in order to fight his enemy, another giant. But when Fionn saw how big he was, he got scared and ran back home. The Scottish giant followed him, but when he got near his home, Fionn’s wife opened the door and told him not to wake up the baby, which was actually Fionn crawling in a small bed. When seeing the giant “baby”, he got scared and rapidly turned back to Scotland, braking the Causeway not to get caught.

Cancun Underwater Museum or MUSA is an unusual exhibition of sculptures made by Jason DeCaires Taylor placed in the waters surrounding Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc in Mexico. The amazing project that took shape in 2009 because of the artist Jason deCaires Taylor, in collaboration with The National Marine Park and The Cancun Nautical Association, consists of over 403 permanent life-size sculptures and it is considered the most innovative underwater art project.

All the sculptures in Cancun Underwater Museum are made from specialized materials, with pH-neutral concrete, planned to become artificial reefs and to promote coral life.

You probably wonder who all these characters are. The surprise is that Taylor’s inspiration of Cancun Underwater Museum is based on members of the local community. The project consists of four installations: the Silent Evolution (sculptures represented in the picture below), the Gardener of Hope, the Dream Collector and the Burning Man. The main purpose of the museum is to demonstrate the symbolic interaction between nature and environmental science, a relation that forms a complex structure for marine life.

Man-Pupu-Nyor (little mountain of the gods) is a magical geological legacy sculpted deep within the Ural mountains in Russia.

It consists of seven impressive rock formations with heights varying from 30 to 42 meters which reign over the solitary mountain plateau. The Seven Giants are located in an inhospitable and remote region in the Komi Republic, which is why access to Man-Pupu-Nyor is reserved to very well prepared travelers and usually requires helicopters or snowmobiles.

Man-Pupu-Nyor in Russia is a place which inspired hundreds of legends throughout the years. The unusual shape of the giant rocks as well as their distribution (six grouped together and one several meters apart) was probably the reason for the most known myth. It is said that a shaman cast a spell on the evil giants and turned them into stone.

Due to the instable weather, the landscape here changes dramatically, sometimes even several times a day. Each month brings something new to this plateau, which makes traveling here interesting, no matter what the season.

Depending on the visiting moment, the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland can seem either friendly and inviting or mysterious and cold. In any case, this is a place of breathtaking beauty, one that captures you completely. They basically have you at “hello”.

“Rising slowly from Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) stretching south for nearly five miles (8km) to Hags head. Being almost vertical, their sheer drop into the Atlantic ocean is a haven for sea birds. One can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk Mountains to the north in Connemara and Loop Head to the South, the top is never tiresome.” (more information here)

When visiting the Cliffs of Moher, one can explore the local caves, go fishing, surf, visit the tower, take a bike ride on the edge and simply admire the amazing landscapes. You can find accommodation online- there are a few sites especially dedicated to this area. Here is a place to get you started.

The Cave City of Vardzia is a house of religious retirement, also referred to as a cave monastery, located near Aspindza, towards the southern end of Georgia. Queen Tamar founded the cave monastery in the year of 1185, back when the building was used as a protection shelter against the Mongols.

This thirteen-story complex consisted of six thousand apartments. Back then, Vardzia consisted of a throne room, a church and an intricate irrigation system for watering the farmlands. The complex was accessible only through the hidden tunnels that were located near the Mtkvari River. Today, the Cave Town of Vardzia is a foremost tourist spot in the Samtskhe-Javakheti area of Georgia. The location is preserved by a group of monks and can be visited by the public by paying a nominal fee. Taxicabs, also known as Marshrutkas, in the local language, travel back and forth from the city of Akhaltsikhe to Vardzia on a daily basis. On one hand, one can see about three hundred halls and apartments that have been preserved and can be visited by tourists while, on the other, the old irrigation pipes in some tunnels, still transport drinkable water.

A little travel advice: Getting there is possible by reaching the small town of Aspindza. From here on, you can go on foot, as long as you have a good tent and trekking equipment. Always ensure to carry lots of water and food along with you while you visit the place, as Vardzia lacks any roadside restaurants. However, a riverside picnic before climbing up to the city is always a good option.

For anyone in love with tradition in its purest, organic form, Capadoccia, Turkey is a place likely to leave a mark. Seeing some representative photos of the region made us want to research more about this place, which seems sprung out from a lost and beautiful world.

Yunak Hotel is located in Cappadocia (aka “region of exceptional natural wonders”), an ancient Greek city on the current territory of Turkey, in eastern Anatolia and it consists of six cave-shaped homes with no less than 30 single rooms, some of them dating back as far as the 5′th century.

Yunak Evleri Cave Hotel may not be luxurious, nor spectacular, but to us, it looks flawless. The fact that its architecture is subtle and does not try to stand out in any way, makes it our kind of building. The hotel is perfectly integrated in its fantastic surrounding, as the materials employed do a great job further camouflaging the project. Irregularly-shaped walls ensure the cave-like feel, while generous windows open up the rooms to the lava layers deposited over time. A comfortable setting is created on the side if the building opposite to the seemingly sober facade, with the help of lovely table arrangements and comfortable seating. And the outdoor fireplace completes the perfect image.

Narrow passages and fascinating stone labyrinths lead the travelers to their designated rooms. Yunak serves as accommodation for tourists trying to discover Cappadocia. There are many things one can do in this beautiful part of Turkey, such as trekking, hot air ballooning, cycling and horseback riding.

We would be interested in knowing your opinion about the Yunak Evleri in Cappadocia. Does it seem like a place you would consider when in search for accommodation units ?

Located between Salzburg and Graz, in the Salzkammergut Lake District of Austria, Hallstatt is a little town of breathtaking views. Considered to be the oldest still inhabited settlement in Europe, Hallstatt is a UNESCO heritage site and an important Austrian tourist attraction.

Its name is “borrowed” from the Hallstatt culture, the predominant Central European Culture during the early Iron Age. An old cemetery was found in the little town which is said to date back to those times. Also known as “the Pearl of Austria”, Hallstatt is truly spectacular, due to its “guardian of the Hallstättersee lake” status and the beautiful mountains surrounding it.

Half an hour is more than enough time to walk through this town from one side to another. This might also turn out to be a “must”, as cars are not allowed here from May to October, 10am to 5pm.

Hallstatt is also known for its World’s First Salt Mine and the stunning salt caves which can be visited by tourists. The ice caves are also fascinating.

When in Hallstatt, be sure not miss out on visiting the Cultural Heritage Museum and the Beinhaus (“Bone House”), in order to get familiarized with the History of the place.

There are many things to do in Hallstatt and we will only name a few: boating, hiking, surfing, visiting the salt mines and the ice caves. During the summer, FKK nude beach is very popular.

Pamukkale is an amazing display of natural hot water pools in Denizli Province, south-western Turkey. What you see in the photos below are known as travertines or the terraces that form due to the carbonate minerals that gather up as the flowing water circles. Pamukkale is actually Turkish for “cotton castle”, a name that we think manages to characterize the true inner “fluffiness” of this place.

This amazing location can be visited all year long, but it is absolutely spectacular in the winter time, when natural pools of hot water form and tourists can take long, soothing baths.

Getting there is possible by taking a plane or a bus to the city of Denizli – Cardak Airport. From here on a bus to Pamukkale is available (20 km). Remember to take a bag for your shoes and bring along some slippers for visiting the travertines. And your bathing suit. Accommodation will not be an issue, as you will find that the area is highly developed in matters of tourism. In fact it is too developed, although in the winter time you might just get a little privacy. There is a lot more information in the uploaded video about how these incredible formations were born and here is a site for getting you started in planning your trip.

The glass skywalk in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Tianmen Mountain, China, seems especially built for the fearless. But walking on this incredible pathway, suspended 1,430 meters high up in the air (about 4 691.6 feet) is also 6,35 centimeters thick (2.5 inches), making it safe for the avalanche of tourists.

The Skywalk in the Tianmen Mountain offers thrilling views of the surrounding mountains, not to mention the ones beneath your feet. This is one of the reasons why it is said the cleaners of the path make visitors wear cloth shoes over their footwear, in order to make their job easier and less scary. The bridge is about 61 meters long (200 feet) and its impressive height allows travelers to have a look at the mountain peaks below. This amazing spot is just one of the many attractions of the Hunan Province in China.

The Skywalk in the Tianmen Mountain is slightly higher than the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which we featured here. But the comparison can go no further; these two attractions are located in unique places, each of them triggering a different set of emotions. Enjoy the photos !
